Note In July 1863, Elizabeth Thorn, mother of three and caretaker of the Gettysburg cemetery after her husband joined in the U.S. Army, buried 105 soldiers from the Battle of Gettysburg, with intermittent help, while six months pregnant. A seven-foot bronze statue of her, weary and pregnant, was created by Ron Tunison and dedicated in November 2002.
