Civil War obelisk memorial, Santa Fe Plaza
Gallagher: “and there is one in the plaza at Santa Fe which was put up in 1868. It’s
one of the very earliest Union monuments. It’s an obelisk, and it
talks to the defenders of the Union—put up by the legislature of
the territory of New Mexico in 1866, ’7, and ’8, as it says on it”(38-39).
